Your Questions...ANSWERED

Your Questions...ANSWERED 2

We're still in Tucson, Arizona. Our truck and trailer are ready. Our to-do is list is significantly shorter than it once was. Our hands and our hearts are ready for the adventure ahead.

BUT - we still have a few small matters to attend to (most notably, finding a tenant for our house).

As we wait, we thought we'd answer a few of your burning questions about our upcoming adventure.

Blessing asked, "With your house still on the market, and all the craziness that goes with preparation for life on the road – Have you ever looked back with regrets?"

This preparation time is crazy (and overwhelming) (and stressful too). BUT - it's also purposeful...and there is so much peace that goes along with that. We know that this is what we are supposed to do this year.

Emily asked, "What do your parents and extended family think about your new adventure?"

Our parents and grandparents all reacted the same way - first, with shock...then, with wholehearted support. They're going to miss us (and we're going to miss them) - but there is mutual energy around the idea. When we told Tim's 90-year-old grandparents (they've been married for 61 years; see above), they said, "This is what our country needs."

hippie4ever asked, "Why Texas? And what part?"

San Antonio is our first stop. Austin is our second stop. We chose to head east along the gulf coast due to weather concerns. We wanted to avoid driving our gigantic 5th wheel on icy streets or in sheets of rain. The reality is that EVERY city and EVERY town in America is in need of help (of some kind). We'll choose our destinations based on a variety of factors - weather, organization recommendations, available campground options, etc.

Sarah asked, "where do you think you’ll live when the Give Every Day project is over, or do you think the Give Every Day project will continue forever?"

Right now, the plan is to be on-the-road for 1-year. We may continue after that, but there's also a good chance that we'll get pregnant and have a newborn (and need to reevaluate after the initial 12 months or so). Have you ever tried driving for extended periods with an infant? (Not relaxing). ;)

Madeline asked, "You’ve got an amazing year ahead of you. Do you have plans for next year, or will you be winging it after a year on the road?"

We'll be winging it! Part of our trip will be determining where we go from here. There may be a particular city that sings a song of "Home" to our hearts...or there may be a cause that inspires us...or there may be another "crazy" adventure that awaits.

WHAT OTHER QUESTIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR US? (Ask away!)

  1. I think I would rather drive for extended hours with an infant over a 2 year old. You guys are brave! :)

  2. Fun! Glad you have great support. Don't discount traveling with a baby too quickly, plenty do. Not me, so that's not first hand! :) we rarely travel more than a few hours at a time though, so the long drives are rare & short ones no biggie with kids. :)

    1. Thanks for the encouragement about traveling with a baby. We'll see... ;)

We'll probably travel a max of five hours at a time...likely less. It's nice not to be on a specific schedule.

  3. Oh I love to hear the details of this adventure. Thanks so much for answering my question. And for real, the roads are sloppy and slippery now in Indiana, but this Summer or Fall we would LOVE to have you!

  4. I think it's great that y'all are winging it. There is such a thing as over-planning life. It's good to just let go and let God steer.
Hope your house rents out soon!!! Can't wait til y'all are off.

  5. Thanks for answering my question! I am so excited to see what God has planned for your family.

  6. I was thinking of you guys today as I was washing dishes, and started wondering about how you plan to have intentional community (as in, knowing your nitty gritty and loving you and caring for you and investing in YOU)... church, etc??? You are planners, I am sure you have thoughts and ideas. I would just love to hear some of them! :)

  7. Hi Stephanie, I'm one of the RNs at the Birth Center and am excited to follow your adventure! I'm going to post the link re your house for sale on the BC FB page.

    1. Hi Judy! I'm so glad that you found us (and will be following along).

Also - thank you for spreading the word about our house! We appreciate it.

    1. Oh, yes. I've followed Sara and her family off-and-on for the past 6 months. They recently announced that they're settling down in Colorado after several years of living on the road.

  8. I am curious (and you may have posted this already) but is there going to be a map or timeline so we can see where you are planning to be? Just curious! :)

Our family spent 2011 traveling the USA in an RV, striving to intentionally "give every day" for the glory of God. We interviewed CEOs of nonprofits and served alongside over 40 organizations and churches.
