Day #131: Give Attention to Your Kids

Today, I spent most of the day with my two girls. In the morning the three of us went down to the family center here at our campground while Stephanie worked. The family center has a little area with toys and books for small children. While we were there, another little girl arrived. I read books to the three girls, played Tea, and chatted on and off with the other little girl's … [Read more...]

Day #127: Give Someone a Compliment After a Performance

Today, the four of us went to a children's dinner theater in Fredericksburg and watched the musical Doctor Doolittle. We were given bagged lunches with hot chicken nuggets and had our own private table. The girls were fascinated by the actors and their costumes. It was a great family experience. One of the best solos was from the crocodile. After the show, we were intentional to congratulate … [Read more...]

Day #104: Give a Garden

The four of us had a fun time this morning planting a garden for the Salvation Army's shelter in Fayetteville. We pulled up weeds, broke apart soil, dug holes, and planted zucchini squash and tomatoes. The shelter will use the fresh vegetables in their kitchen. This was a great project for the whole family because our two girls were able help with the entire process from preparing the soil … [Read more...]

Video: Give Every Day Reality TV

The weeks before launching GiveEveryDay were crammed full of preparation. We had truck and trailer maintenance, passports to renew, mailing addresses to update, a house to rent, and what felt like (at the time) an unsurmountable list of things to accomplish before we left.  I worked full-time until the end of November so nearly everything happened in December and January. We departed Tucson, AZ on … [Read more...]

Day #98: Give Exercise to Your Body

Running is something we used to do often - all four of us together. I would push our double jogger and run next to Stephanie, but lately it has been difficult to make happen. We keep changing campgrounds, jogging-friendly paths are not always easily accessible, and our jogging stroller isn't as much fun for the girls on rocky, uneven terrain. We have been feeling a bit frustrated about exercise … [Read more...]

We Almost Became a Reality TV Show

This Sunday will mark Day# 100. It is hard to believe that we are that far along. We plan to have a surprise party for the girls when they wake up that morning - a mini celebration here in the RV. Stephanie and I are going to blow up ballons and decorate the fifth wheel the night before when they are tucked in bed. We want our girls to know we appreciate their caring hearts and the sacrifice … [Read more...]

Day #96: Give a Letter to Your Sponsored Child

The past 5 years we have sponsored a boy named Gift from Zimbabwe through World Vision. Without fail, we send $35/mth - it is automatically taken out of our account. But we haven't been very diligent about writing to him. As a family, we periodically pray for Gift and his community, but somehow we rarely get around to putting pen-to-paper. This morning we wrote Gift a letter. It was simple. … [Read more...]

Day #92: Give Your Mom a Mother’s Day Card

Today, we spent several hours creating mother's day cards and printing out pictures for Stephanie's mom and my mom. Our two girls were in charge of the card-making. Our oldest drew a picture of my mom standing with her four grandchildren and Stephanie and I sorted through pictures and printed some favorites. What did you do for your mom this mother's day? … [Read more...]

Day #91: Give One-on-One Time to Your Child

We spend lots of time together as a family. That is one of the reasons we are on this 365-day giving adventure, but today I spent extra one-on-one time with our oldest daughter. I took her fishing at a lake near our campground. We hiked from fishing spot to fishing spot, talking as we went. We haven't ever gone fishing together before so I taught her how to cast and reel in the line. After … [Read more...]
