Day #53: Give with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Orlando, FL

Day #53: Give with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Orlando, FL 1

Did you know that there are over 6,900 spoken languages in our world, but only 657 language groups have access to the entire Bible in the language they best understand? Many groups of people don't even have an established alphabet.

Day #53: Give with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Orlando, FL 2

Founded in 1942, Wycliffe is non-profit organization that holds the belief that every man, woman, and child should be able to read God’s Word in their own language.

Simply put, Wycliffe teams (along with native speakers) help establish literacy, education, and ultimately a translation of the Bible.

The benefits of translation and literacy for these minority language groups are many. They include better health as a result of access to medical information, economic growth due to the acquisition of marketable skills, and the preservation of culture thanks to a written history. Most importantly, Bible translation brings people closer to God Himself—the One who transforms hearts.

Today, we had an opportunity to tour the Wycliffe USA headquarters & WordSpring Discovery Center to learn more about about the organization.

Their are several volunteer opportunities with Wycliffe ranging from short-term service trips to IT.

  1. Hi, I only dicovered your blog and story yesterday! Wow!
My family has long had connections with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Australia. One of my Uncles and his family were involved in translation in number of Pacific nations for years and he is currently the CEO of Summer Institue of Linguistics in Australia. It is such a huge task to translate the Bible and Wycliffe staff do an amazing job of it!
I can't wait to see where you all head next on your adventure!

  2. This makes my heart smile, guys. I would love to hear more of what you thought of it. I REALLY hope that you pass through here (and spend some time... remember, it's important to revive your soul through fellowship and community!). Looking forward to it! :)

  3. Ranging from short-term service trips to IT to AVIATION! :-) Glad you guys went to visit.

  4. Now here is an organization that I've long admired - I didn't realize they were headquartered in Orlando. It would be neat to tour their facility, I definitely believe in the work they do!

  5. Wow - I've never heard of this place, but am so excited to know it exists. Thanks for sharing!

Our family spent 2011 traveling the USA in an RV, striving to intentionally "give every day" for the glory of God. We interviewed CEOs of nonprofits and served alongside over 40 organizations and churches.

Our Pledge

We hereby pledge:

- To spend intimate, quantity time with our family.
- To actively help the poor, the sick, the lonely, and the helpless.
- To value, protect, and advocate for children.
- To de-emphasize the importance of “stuff” in our lives.
- To bring publicity to good causes and good people.
- To live with intentionality, as if this year was our very last.
- To observe the needs in our country/community – and then do something about them.
- To give – every day.
