East Coast Route for April - May - June

Mapping our route isn't as easy as it might seem. We have specific organizations we want to volunteer with, we have friends we would love to see, we have cost figures to consider, and we have campgrounds to reserve. That said, here is our tentative schedule for the next 3 months: April 1-10 Woodbine, GA […]

Day #60: Give by Going Barefoot

This morning we told the girls that we were not going to wear shoes. Our oldest wanted to know if we were still "going to go outside." She was thrilled at the idea of running around with bare feet. Today, was Toms Shoes' One Day Without Shoes. Toms Shoes is a company that is acutely aware of […]

Day #59: Give Books to the Library

One of our country's best institutions (in my opinion) is the Public Library. The library is a place of learning and discover - no matter your age. That said, I imagine our libraries will need to evolve with technology if they will continue to thrive - perhaps becoming more dependent on e-book readers and the internet. Today, […]

Day #58: Give Your Family Rest

It is hard to believe we are nearly two months on the road. In that time, we have already driven through 8 States. Everywhere we go, we are volunteering with organizations and searching for people to give to. Volunteering has been awesome! As expected, we have learned so much and met many amazing people who […]

Day #57: Give Cupcakes to a Birthday Kid

The campground owners of the RV park that we are staying at have four kids. One of them turned 12 today! We wanted to give a small gift for her birthday so when we were at the grocery store last night we picked up ingredients for cupcakes. Originally, we thought we would buy a giant chocolate bar […]

Day #56: Give to Someone with Cancer

Did you know that there are nearly 12 million people in the United States with cancer or who have been afflicted by cancer but overcome the disease? Chances are you have a friend or a family member who has battled against one of the 100 plus different types of cancer. Recently, I have been reminded […]

Campground Sponsor: KOA Campground Kissimmee/Orlando

This past week we stayed at the KOA in Kissimmee, FL. Just off the freeway, the campground is strategically located only a short drive from most of the "big-name" Orlando attractions (Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, Etc.). The first thing we did after setting up our fifth wheel was to head into the […]

Day #55: Give Literacy to Your Children

Today, like every day, I spent time reading with our girls. They both love books!  They are eager to soak up the knowledge found on each page. On most days, we read dozens of children's books with them - even when we're tired, even when we've read a book a hundred times already. We were […]

Day #54: Give with Campus Crusade in Orlando, Florida

We arrived in Daytona, Florida this afternoon, but before we left the Orlando area we visited the International Headquarters of Campus Crusade For Christ. CCCI is a worldwide non-profit organization that seeks to help build spiritual movements everywhere so everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus Christ. I was a little surprised by how many different […]

Day #53: Give with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Orlando, FL

Did you know that there are over 6,900 spoken languages in our world, but only 657 language groups have access to the entire Bible in the language they best understand? Many groups of people don't even have an established alphabet. Founded in 1942, Wycliffe is non-profit organization that holds the belief that every man, woman, and child […]

Some things changed when we moved out of our 1800 sq ft house and into our 360 sq ft home. For example, we had to buy new bed sheets. In our old house, we had a king bed and two doubles. In our fifth wheel, we have one queen bed and one twin. Space is […]

Day #52: Give Back Your Shopping Cart

I know the title sounds like I am suggesting not to "steal shopping carts." :) After my oldest daughter and I came out of the grocery store today, we put our shopping bags in the truck and then pushed the basket to the cart receptacle. It is a simple thing, but many people don't do it. […]

Day #51: Give a Hygiene Kit

Our oldest daughter and I went to Target today to buy items to make a hygiene kit. We plan to give the little kit to a homeless person next time we are on-the-road. Sometimes it is difficult to know if giving money is helpful in the long run. When possible, we like to give edible […]

All my friends know this about me: I like things clean. Usually this is a good quality, but sometimes my "cleanliness standards" are a little too high for the rest of my family. When we bought our fifth wheel, it needed cleaning - and lots of it. There was nothing overly disgusting, but when someone else has […]

Day #50: Give Grandparent Cards

Our girls love making cards and sending them to friends and relatives. Tonight, Stephanie and the kids made grandparent cards (or at least that is what we call them). With Stephanie's help, they printed out pictures of recent adventures, put stickers on envelopes, and wrote a short list of the things they have been doing. […]

Our family spent 2011 traveling the USA in an RV, striving to intentionally "give every day" for the glory of God. We interviewed CEOs of nonprofits and served alongside over 40 organizations and churches.

Our Pledge

We hereby pledge:

- To spend intimate, quantity time with our family.
- To actively help the poor, the sick, the lonely, and the helpless.
- To value, protect, and advocate for children.
- To de-emphasize the importance of “stuff” in our lives.
- To bring publicity to good causes and good people.
- To live with intentionality, as if this year was our very last.
- To observe the needs in our country/community – and then do something about them.
- To give – every day.
